History

Addison Airport was opened in 1957 after a group of local aviation supporters felt the north of Dallas would benefit from the facility due to its continued expansion. Built using private funds, the airport was constructed on a 400-acre site with two runways – one made of aggregate and the other from asphalt. The crosswind runway closed to make room for further hangars to the airport’s north.

The city purchased the airport in 1976, and it’s since become the country’s third-largest general aviation airport. The daily maintenance and operation of the terminal are funded by Addison Airport of Texas, Inc. Supported by the corporation and fuel flowage fees; the airport delivers an estimated $220 million to the local economy.
